Managing Strong Emotions
Practical skills for responding to customers in emotional distress. Full-day workshop, face to face or online.
Customer Service
$280 per person
Half price for our next two programs. $560 per person thereafter.
Who it’s for: Frontline staff, call-takers and customer service teams who deal with upset, angry or distressed customers, by phone or face to face.
This program gives frontline staff the confidence to respond constructively and with empathy, and to de-escalate emotionally charged conversations. It’s built on evidence, current research on the nervous system and brain, and lived experience. It covers both sides of a hard conversation: how to stay regulated yourself, and how to support the person in front of you.
Participants will learn
- The science of stress, and why the thinking brain goes offline under threat
- Self-regulation techniques to use during or after a difficult call
- How to recognise the signs of distress, including suicide risk, and your role: notice, care, connect
- A five-step reflective listening method that moves conversations from blame to problem-solving
- How to set clear boundaries and respond safely to abuse or manipulation
- How to protect against compassion fatigue and burnout
What it gives your team
- More confident, calmer frontline staff
- Fewer escalated interactions
- Clearer boundaries when customers become abusive
- Staff equipped to spot and respond to suicide risk
- Less burnout and compassion fatigue across the team
- Support for your psychosocial hazard mitigation plan

02
Conversations during Change
Practical skills for supporting people through organisational change while meeting your psychosocial obligations. Full-day workshop, face to face or online.
PEOPLE MANAGERS
Who it’s for: People managers, team leaders and HR business partners who lead teams through restructures, new systems or uncertain times. It’s especially useful for managers who are going through the change themselves and often have little control over the outcome.
Poorly managed change is a foreseeable psychosocial hazard, and leaders have a legal duty to manage it. This program gives managers the confidence to recognise when people are struggling, hold steady through difficult conversations and take practical steps to reduce risk. It’s grounded in WHS requirements and research on how the brain responds to threat, and it’s highly interactive. It covers both sides of leading change: staying regulated yourself, and supporting the people in front of you.
Participants will learn
- Their WHS obligations during change, and what that means in practice for managers
- Why change triggers a threat response, and how to spot the unmet need behind people's reactions
- How to maintain their own inner calm, with practical techniques to stay regulated under pressure
- How to recognise the signs of distress and check in with confidence, without diagnosing or trying to fix
- A four-step framework to recognise, respond, rebalance and review when someone is struggling
- How to support others without carrying their distress
What it gives your team
- Managers who stay steady and lead with confidence through change
- Earlier support for people who are struggling, before it turns into an issue
- Stronger trust and less resistance across the team
- Managers protected from burnout and emotional overload
- A clear, defensible approach to psychosocial risk
- Support for your psychosocial hazard mitigation plan
Delivery
- Full-day workshop
- Face to face or online
- Tailored to your organisation

03
Suicide Prevention in the Workplace
Practical skills to recognise, ask about and respond to suicide risk in colleagues and customers. 4-hour workshop, face to face or online.
TEAM LEADERS
Who it’s for: Team leaders, HR teams, customer service teams and anyone who may be the first person a struggling colleague or customer turns to.
Most people who are thinking about suicide don’t want to die. They want the pain to end. This program gives your people the confidence to notice when someone isn’t coping, ask directly about suicide and connect them with the right support. It’s built on evidence, current Australian research and lived experience, and it’s highly practical, using real-life scenarios and guided practice. Participants learn CALM’s four-step C-A-R-E model (Connect, Ask, Refer, Exit), a clear framework they can use with confidence in the moment that matters most.
Participants will learn
- The impact of suicide in Australia, and the common myths that stop people from speaking up
- How to recognise warning signs and life stressors, including the subtle ones that are easy to miss
- How to start the conversation and ask directly about suicide, safely and without fear of making things worse
- How to listen without trying to fix, so the person feels heard and stays engaged
- A warm handover technique to connect someone with professional and personal support, with the support of an app
- How to look after themselves after a difficult conversation, with a personal self-care plan
What it gives your team
- Staff equipped to spot and respond to suicide risk
- Confidence to have the conversation, rather than avoid it
- A shared, practical framework used across the organisation
- Clear pathways to internal and external support
- Less stigma and more help-seeking across the workplace
- Support for your psychosocial hazard mitigation plan

- 4-hour workshop
- Face to face or online
